1. Verbs and prepositions

En inglés existen ciertos verbos que acostumbran a ir seguidos de una preposición concreta que completa el significado del verbo sin alterar el significado original del verbo principal.

2. Los verbs and prepositions más comúnes

No existe ninguna norma que regule qué preposición debemos utilizar, por lo tanto, debemos aprender los verbos con su preposición correspondiente.

  Preposition Examples
AGREE With (someone) Estar de acuerdo con alguien I don't agree with you. No estoy de acuerdo contigo.
On (something) Estar/ponerse de acuerdo con/sobre We finally agreed on what to do at the weekend. Finalmente nos pusimos de acuerdo sobre lo que haríamos el fin de semana.
ARRIVE At (building, room, event) Llegar a We arrived at the station on time. Llegamos a la estación a tiempo.
In (city, country) Llegar a We arrived in London early in the morning. Llegamos a Londres por la mañana temprano.
DREAM About (sleeping) Soñar con I often dream about snakes. A menudo sueño con serpientes.
Of (expectation) Soñar con I dream of being a millionaire one day. Sueño con ser millonaria algún día.
TALK To Hablar con She is talking to her teacher. Está hablando con su profesora.
About Sobre They are talking about clothes. Están hablando sobre ropa.
SHOUT At (someone) Gritar a (porque se está enfadado) He shouted at me for breaking his mobile. Me gritó por haberle roto su móvil.
To (someone) Gritar a (para que te oiga) He shouted to me from the other side of the room. Me gritó desde el otro lado de la habitación.
THINK Of Pensar en/opinar sobre What do you think of the new teacher? (tú) ¿Qué opinas del nuevo profesor?
About Pensar en/considerar I'm thinking about building a pool in the garden. Estoy pensando en construir una piscina en el jardín.
LAUGH At/about (something) Reírse de/con He is funny boy. I always laugh at his jokes. Es un chico divertido. Siempre me río de sus chistes.
GET MARRIED To Casarse con I'm getting married to Michel next October. Me caso con Michael el próximo octubre.
LOOK At Mirar She is looking at some flowers. Está mirando unas flores.
INVITE (someone) to (a place) Invitar a alguien a I am going to invite him to my party. Voy a invitarle a mi fiesta.
BELIEVE In Creer en Do you believe in God? (tú) ¿Crees en Dios?
LISTEN To Escuchar I usually listen to classical music. Normalmente escucha música clásica.
PAY For Pagar por How much did you pay for this hat? (tú) ¿Cuánto pagaste por este sombrero?
WRITE To (someone) Escribir a I'm writing a letter to my family. Estoy escribiendo una carta a mi familia.
WAIT For Esperar a I'm waiting for my sister. Estoy esperando a mi hermana.
